Obama "McCain Is an Old Man" Ad Backfires

The Corner has a great write-up of the story of Obama's first ad after his "get tough" makeover. If this holds true, the story could end up getting a lot of press, assuming the press still covers topics other than Sarah Palin.

The short summary: The ad portrays McCain as so old and out-of-touch that he isn't even email savvy in a modern world. It turns out there is only one problem with the "attack":
McCain's severe war injuries prevent him from combing his hair, typing on a keyboard, or tying his shoes.
Oops. First Biden asks a man in a wheelchair to stand up and now Obama's camp is unwittingly taunting McCain about his war injuries. Now I'm sure they didn't know that his injuries affected him in this manner and they thought the ad creative. It just is one more sign of a campaign flailing about instead of on task. As the Corner article points out, the information about McCain's injury was published in the Boston Globe in 2000.

So why did know one think to look? Sadly, I think that they believe their own spin. In their mind, McCain is a silly old coot that really doesn't understand the current world situation. Of course he doesn't understand email. Once again they underestimated their opponent. When people write about arrogance or hubris, this is what they are referring to.

Instapundit adds:
OKAY, I THOUGHT THE OBAMA COMMERCIAL MOCKING MCCAIN for not using a computer was dumb because it would alienate older voters. But it turns out it's a lot dumber than that...
Will there be an apology? History would suggest that you shouldn't wait for one.
