Will Clinton Help Obama fight Palinmania?

A news item I declined to cover the other day was that Obama would call on female surrogates to fight Sarah Palin. That's the actual headline:
To counter Palin, Obama to dispatch female surrogates
I guess because this sounds oddly like a theme inspired by Invasion of the Body Snatchers, headlines quickly changed. The NYT covered it this way:
Obama Camp Turns to Clinton to Counter Palin
Ann Althouse covered this switch of headlines here. She also posted a poll question "Which headline was more accurate, and why did the NYT switch to the second headline?" and the poll results ... well I hope it doesn't surprise you.

So far Clinton has be coy with her answers, but saying:
Advisers to Mrs. Clinton said that she stood ready to help the Obama-Biden ticket, but they urged the campaign not to overestimate the impact Mrs. Clinton could have, noting that she had other commitments this fall, like campaigning and raising money for Senate candidates.
is pretty much a political "good luck to you". Though you have to admire his audacity, in a way. After not picking Hilary as VP and reportedly dismissing the idea immediately, it takes some doing to go begging for her help now.

Today, Instapundit linked to a more general article on the presidential race at the Moderate Voice. The whole article is interesting and as Glenn says, "Read the whole thing." But the political cartoon linked in the article is germane to this topic so I thought I'd link it here.

Brilliant.
